More Arsenal transfer rumours today Gooners and this time it’s an exciting link with striker Fernando Llorente, who’s hinted he’s set to leave Athletic Bilbao.
Llorente is in the final year of his contract and all signs are suggesting he won’t be signing an extension with Bilbao. Understandably, the Spaniard’s aren’t going to give up without a fight and are trying to hold last-ditch talks to try and persuade him to stay.
But talkSPORT are reporting that the Spanish striker has made his mind up to leave in search of a new challenge and Arsenal, along with Liverpool and Manchester City, are interested in bringing him to the Premier League.
He’s now dropped a big hint that he’s set to quit Bilbao after saying he wants to leave the club in as high a position in the league as possible.
“Hopefully I can get a few goals by the end. The more the merrier – and I’d like to leave the team as high in the table as I can.”
Llorente bagged 29 goals last season but has struggled to recapture that form this year, but the 27-year-old has played down the lack of goals and insists he’ll continue to try his best for the club.
“You have to forget what has happened (regarding his future and talk of an exit). Perhaps I have lacked luck this year,” he added.
“I will continue to give everything here for Athletic.”
We’ve been linked with the 27-year-old for over a year now but it seems his signing could be a real possibility, either in January or in the summer. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January so we’ll have to move fast if we want to beat the competition. But with Wenger admitting he wants a new striker in January, maybe we should submit a cheeky £6m bid and see if Bilbao bite?
Better to get him in asap than wait for the summer i say. But either way, i think there is real interest from our side but he may be one of several names Arsene is interested in.
