Lots of Arsenal transfer news doing the rounds in the newspapers recently, with Arsene Wenger reportedly ready to open the bidding for Crystal Palace wizzkid Wilfried Zaha.
Zaha has been attracting interest after some impressive displays in the Championship and the Daily Mail are reporting that scouts from most of the big-guns have been in the stands during recent games.
Right in the mix is said to be Arsenal with chief scout Steve Rowley in attendence to watch the 19-year-old put in a superb performance during Palace’s win over Leicester last week.
This has prompted boss Arsene Wenger into action and the Frenchman is ready to submit a bid of £9m – which includes several performance-related add ons – to test the water. However, Palace aren’t ready to let their star man leave on the cheap, and are looking for over £20m for the winger.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked with Zaha, but Arsenal will look to use the fact the youngster is settled in London, as well as the fact he grew up a Gooner, to their advantage.
While Zaha is no doubt a real talent, at 19 he’s still extremely raw. Some Arsenal fans are suggesting we sell Theo Walcott for £8m and replace him with this fella. Which is utterly ridiculous. Walcott is 23, has made over 200 appearances for Arsenal and is an England international. Zaha hasn’t played beyond the Championship and is completely un-proven. It would be a huge backwards step.
