Another day of Arsenal transfer rumours and another striker is linked with a move to north London. Today, the Daily Mail claim we’re after Shakhtar Donetsk hitman Luiz Adriano.
Apparently we’ve sent scouts to watch the Brazilian on several occasions over the past year or so and a representative was at Stamford Bridge last week to watch the him in action during Shakhtar’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea in the champions league.
The Mail claim that we were offered Adriano in the summer when Arsene Wenger was looking for a replacement for Robin van Persie, but we decided against signing the 25-year-old and went for French striker Olivier Giroud instead.
However, the boss is considering going back in for Adriano in January but any move will be dependent on offloading Marounae Chamakh first. There will be competition though, with both Liverpool and Spurs also thought to be keeping an eye on the former Internacional man.
I’ve seen Adriano play a few times, mostly in the Champions League, and he’s certainly a talent and would offer some much-needed pace up front. Something Arsenal sorely lack these days. With 45 goals in 107 games for Shakhtar, he obviously knows where the goal is, so as transfer rumours go, I wouldn’t mind this one being true!
